You may have noticed this curious little symbol, a heart with a single wide eye, appearing again and again in my world. My logo and has quietly become one of the most recognizable emblems of my art and branding.
This motif didn’t come from a single idea. Like much of my work it emerged intuitively, something I returned to over time, drawing and redrawing until it found its form. It’s been through many iterations before it landed in this crisp vector-like version: a kawaii heart with a playful scalloped edge. For me it speaks to childlike wonderment.
The Eye Heart represents awareness and inner vision, an instinctive way of seeing, one that we’re born with but that life often erodes as we grow. It’s about returning to that optimism, seeing the world through the lens of your heart, loving what you see and taking the time to notice. A kind of soft magical enlightenment thats about being present, open and attuned to both the seen and the unseen.
The Eye Heart has become something of a personal sigil, a symbolic mark that appears across all of my branding for MyfanwyNia. Since my name can be a bit of a mouthful the logo has become instantly recognizable and now works as a visual shorthand for my brand. You’ll find it on product packaging, prints, apparel and often at the end of my signature when I sign work on walls and canvases.
It’s a symbol that bridges who I am as a maker, playful, intuitive, sometimes awkward, odd and otherworldly, with what I hope to offer through my art: a moment of seeing more clearly, feeling more deeply and maybe believing in the magic of small things.
A way of being, seeing and creating that welcomes more love and beauty into our world, as if by noticing what we cherish, we make space for more of it; when we make space for it, it so often tends to grow and isn't that what real magic really is xx
Oh hello, you clicked the logo...
Are you curious about the Eye Heart?
You're not alone. This little symbol has sparked a lot of questions and a little magic over the years. If you're here, you probably followed your intuition and I love that:
Let me tell you the story...
The Story Behind the Eye Heart
Jonah-inspired transformation: A doorway opens in her chest and from it, Eye Hearts begin to pour, a quiet awakening inside the whale, a channel of inner sight and soft knowing.
Love & Awairness: She holds her Eye Heart, alive, a little friend, a symbol of presence, perception and soft courage. The scalloped edge and dreamy gaze echo childlike wonder, while the wide eye invites us inward. To love fully and to see truly, begins within.
Watchful and weightless, these air spirits carry the Eye Heart. Their limbs drift like octopus arms, their faces gentle and fey.
Air spirits with drifting limbs blow strings of Eye Hearts like kisses on the wind, part breath, part spell.
A pouring out from this little puppet’s heart. Eye Hearts drift upward as the star Sirius shines bright above her. A quiet nod to Pinocchio, to secret orders, to longing and light.
A Heart Eye opens on Aladdina’s chest as rainbows glow around her. Hearts pour out of the magical lamp, you can have as many wishes as you like!
One of my early street art pieces in Dublin, the Eye Heart sitting quietly beside my hand-painted signature.
The Fool, at the beginning of a journey. In this painting, in the upper left corner, a child lingers near her mother’s grave. Her Eye Heart sleeps. A ribbon-vine flows from her chest to a closed bloom. Nearby, Jiminy Cricket rides a flying seahorse, gently coaxing the flower to wake, a small voice of conscience, whispering hope.
The Hermit, 2009. From the Eye Heart, a ribbon-like vine unfurls and blooms into a flower of perfect symmetry, a quiet symbol of enlightenment. The Hermit says, silence is golden, as it softly illuminates the path ahead.
