Shamrock Fairy
The Shamrock Fairy
This little watercolour painting, The Shamrock Fairy, was created for a group exhibition with Solas Art Gallery in Ballinamore, County Leitrim.
The gallery has recently moved into a new home at The Island Theatre Ballinamore, with its inaugural exhibition in the space opening on the evening of Friday 22nd March 2024. It feels like a really special moment for the gallery and I’m delighted to be part of this new chapter.
The piece came together quite intuitively, building up soft layers of green in watercolour. Behind her, a Celtic knotwork four-leaf clover weaves through the composition, a little symbol of luck and continuity, while shamrocks and flowing shapes echo that sense of growth. The medium itself felt quite watery as I worked, which led me to add the small frogs, like they naturally belonged there, emerging from that fluid, living space.
She feels like a quiet guardian of luck and nature something gentle, but quietly present.
I’m really looking forward to becoming a member of the gallery as it settles into its new space!
I was especially happy that she found a new home on the opening night, it’s always a lovely feeling to see a piece connect with someone and continue its journey beyond the studio
