MyfanwyNia Studio Days:
Mural Painting Experience in the Leitrim Hills
Step into a world of creativity and spend a day painting large-scale murals at MyfanwyNia’s Studio’s outdoor, purpose-built creative space set deep in the Leitrim hills, in the heart of Leitrim’s Mystical Iron Mountains.
Led by visual artist Harriet Myfanwy Nia Tahany, this immersive day invites you to explore mural painting in a relaxed, supportive and inspiring environment.
The Experience
This is not a typical workshop.
Across the day, you’ll work directly onto a series of outdoor mural walls, using spray paint and mixed techniques to create bold, expressive artwork. You’ll be guided through the process, but equally encouraged to experiment, play and follow your own creative instincts.
Each session begins in the studio’s indoor communal space The Great Hall where we gather for introductions, settle in and ease into the day together before heading out to paint.
The mural surfaces are repainted and renewed between sessions, allowing each group to create something entirely their own.
Whether you’re completely new to painting or already on your artistic path, the space is designed to meet you where you are.
A Day in the Hills
The experience unfolds gently across the day:
Arrival and welcome in The Great Hall
Introductions and orientation
Guided introduction to materials and techniques
Morning painting session
A shared lunch prepared on site
Afternoon painting with more freedom and flow
A relaxed closing moment to step back and take it all in
With music and good vibes throughout the day and the open landscape as your backdrop, this is a chance to slow down, connect and create something real.
Techniques & Guidance
The day begins with a gentle introduction to Harriet’s practice and approach to mural painting, alongside an insight into street art and graffiti techniques, exploring how to work at scale and bring ideas from sketch to wall.
Throughout the day, you’ll be introduced to a range of mural-making techniques to support your process, including:
Scaling up imagery using simple methods such as the doodle grid
Understanding different spray caps for creating varied lines and effects
Colour mixing and building layers with both spray paint and acrylic
Spray painting techniques, including control, movement and flow
Working with cutbacks to refine shapes and develop detail
You’ll also be encouraged to work freely and intuitively.
This is a space where:
everything can be figured out as you go
everything can be adjusted, reworked and painted over
There is no pressure to get things perfect, only an invitation to explore, respond and enjoy the process.
Harriet will guide you throughout, offering support where needed while leaving space for your own ideas to emerge.
Your Artwork
After the day, the finished murals are professionally photographed before the walls are refreshed for future sessions.
You will receive:
A quality digital proof of the artwork to review via email
A 7" × 7" size art print of your work, posted to your home
This print captures your artwork from the day, a lasting memory of your time in the studio.
Optional upgrade:
A larger 10" × 10" or extra-large 14" × 14" giclée fine art print is available for those who would like a more substantial art piece for their home.
