✦ Artist's Note
Cat Like Me began as a traditional graphite drawing on textured watercolour paper, inspired by Japanese folklore and my fascination with cats as creatures who seem to notice things beyond our ordinary perception.
I've always loved the stories of Bakeneko and Nekomata, supernatural cats who shapeshift, speak and move between the familiar world and the unseen.
There's something wonderfully convincing about the idea. Cats already seem to inhabit a reality slightly different from our own.
When I first drew her, the little white cats appeared naturally amongst her enormous curls, as though they had gathered around her of their own accord. They're not really pets. I imagine them as companions, students or perhaps curious little spirits trying to understand her mysterious powers.
I wanted her to feel beautiful, playful and slightly unsettling, a character who hasn't quite decided whether she's human, feline or something else entirely.
For this wooden pin, I've returned to the delicate linework of the original graphite drawing, using laser engraving to translate its intricate details into natural plywood.
I particularly love the contrast between the warm, tactile wood and the sparkling iridescent glass drop, which brings a little movement and shifting colour to the otherwise understated design.
Each brooch is cut, engraved and assembled in small batches in my off-grid studio in County Leitrim, powered by wind and sun.
I hope this little crazy cat lady brings a touch of feline magic into your world and perhaps reminds you that appearances are never quite as fixed as they seem.

✦ Materials & Care
Materials
Natural 3 mm plywood with finely laser-engraved artwork
Natural, uncoated engraved front
Hand-applied glittering resin finish on the reverse
Faceted iridescent glass drop charm with metal jump ring
Resin-embedded metal pin plate with rubber fastener
Care Instructions
Keep dry and avoid soaking or prolonged exposure to moisture. The uncoated wooden surface is particularly sensitive to water and staining.
Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or excessive heat.
Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning solutions or abrasive materials that may damage the engraved surface.
Avoid bending, dropping or applying excessive pressure to the wooden brooch or glass charm.
Handle the dangling glass drop gently to protect its attachment.
As each brooch is handmade, natural variations in wood grain, engraving tone and resin finish are to be expected.

✦ Small-Batch Studio Making
Produced in small batches in my off-grid Leitrim studio, powered by wind and solar energy. Each pin is precision laser-cut, finely engraved, resin-finished on the reverse and assembled by hand.
The engraved front is deliberately left uncoated to preserve the natural texture of the wood and the tactile quality of the illustration.
I make quantities with care rather than holding large volumes of finished stock.
