Candlelit Whiskers – Women’s Camisole Top

Featuring my illustration Candlelit Whiskers, originally drawn in pencil and coloured digitally with layered line-work from the original scan.

This smooth, stretchy camisole features Candlelit Whiskers - a quiet little cat character glowing softly by candlelight. Each top is printed, pressed, relabelled and finished by hand in my off-grid Leitrim studio, produced in micro-batches for limited drops and events. Every piece has its own small nuances and character, making each camisole one-of-a-kind.

Dressed in soft Victorian attire, she feels like the keeper of secrets, a creature who steps forward in the dark not to startle, but to guide the way down long winding passages.

Her bright green eyes reflect the flicker of her candle flame, as though she’s watching over a threshold between worlds. Is she searching for someone who’s late returning home? Or lighting the way for a lost wanderer? She stands in that tender pause where a story waits to be illuminated.

The illustration is inspired by the beautifully eccentric world of Victorian Catland and an ’80s childhood filled with Sylvanian Families and Victorian revival. Early-1900s Catland art was wonderfully whimsical, a time when artists dressed their feline characters in ribbons, gowns, waistcoats and roles full of personality. Candlelit Whiskers belongs to that lineage: a soft-spoken little storyteller with one paw in folklore and one in nostalgia.

With her gentle glow and old-world charm, she makes a lovely everyday companion - warm, steady, and enchanting.

Smooth, stretchy and lightweight, with adjustable shoulder straps, this camisole layers beautifully over long sleeves in winter, works as a base layer beneath cosy knits and cardigans, or can be worn simply on its own in warmer months. A whimsical yet practical wardrobe staple.

✦ Artist’s Note

“These little camisoles hold a special place for me, they were the very first pieces of clothing I began producing myself in my off-grid studio, powered by wind and sun. Something about their simplicity feels timeless: easy to wear, soft against the skin, a perfect layering piece that magically lifts an outfit into something special.

Candlelit Whiskers feels right at home on this kind of piece, a small guardian of light inspired by the old Victorian Catland illustrations that I adore. Those artists dressed their cats as storytellers, entertainers, household companions and little magical beings.

I’ve done my best to source garment blanks from outside of China where possible, though most polyester is still produced in Asia. As a small-batch maker, sourcing sometimes shifts based on availability, but the hands-on part is always the same - each top is pressed, labelled, checked, and finished by me before it leaves the studio.

I hope this camisole becomes one of those reliable favourites in your wardrobe too - a soft, whimsical layer that brings a little whimsy into your day.”

  • Wash inside-out

  • Avoid hot tumble drying

  • Do not iron directly on the print

  • Print softens and flexes beautifully with gentle washing

  • Print Method: DTF (Direct-to-Film), a durable print process applied with heat and pressure, hand-pressed in small batches in my off-grid studio

✦ Sustainability

These camisoles are produced in micro-batches in my off-grid Leitrim studio using wind and solar energy. Each piece is made slowly and with personal attention, avoiding waste and overproduction.

Sourcing of blanks may vary slightly due to the nature of small-batch production, ensuring nothing goes unused or forgotten.
