Harlequin Mermaiden - Limited Edition Art Print
Harlequin Mermaiden swims through the colourful theatre of the sea, where ribbons of light fall like stage curtains across her world. She belongs to another time, the golden age of pantomime and painted faces, of soft laughter echoing behind velvet seaweed drapes.
Down in the sandy hush of the seabed, the circus begins in whispers. Harlequin Mermaiden takes a breath, steadies her smile and lifts her little constellation of starfish into the warm, gentle sea-currents. The show is small and sweet, more practice is needed but that’s part of it’s charm. She coaxes courage from the shy star, giggles with the silly ones and turns their wobble into wonder. Together, they swim to create the illusion of a master juggler at the height of her craft.
A flutter of ribbon fins trails behind her as she swirls, there’s a shimmer of the old Victorian harlequina in her, part trickster, part dreamer. She’s an aspiring performer lost in reverie, her heart dreaming of the limelight and all she could become.
The seabed becomes her stage, the fish her audience and tiny ocean bubbles burst upward with applause.
Harlequin Mermaiden carries a quiet reminder that there’s magic in pretending until you believe it, in finding confidence through friendship and collaboration, in turning every small mistake into part of the act. The beauty and strength of showing up anyway - imperfect and brave, before you feel ready.

✦ About the Print
Digitally reproduced from a high resolution scan of MyfanwyNia’s original watercolour, this fine-art print captures every delicate brushstroke and hue of the hand-painted piece.
Each print is created using a xerographic process - an image-forming technique that uses a light-sensitive photoconductive surface whose electrical resistance changes when exposed to light. This precision laser method fuses dry pigment to the paper’s surface rather than allowing it to soak in, giving the artwork a distinctive richness and depth. The tones appear slightly raised, with a natural sheen that shifts beautifully in the light once the heat has set the pigment.
Because this process uses dry pigment, it allows for printing on luxurious coated pearlescent paper - a softly shimmering surface that enhances the dreamlike quality of the artwork.
Each print is carefully produced in the artist’s studio by MyfanwyNia herself, ensuring the highest attention to detail and finish.

✦ Artist’s Note
“Something about the harlequin pattern has always fascinated me. It conjures up bohemian caravans and travelling carnivals - the call of the unknown, the wonder and whisper of lights in the distance, the romance and risk of running away with the circus.
I later learned that those diamond shapes trace their origins to the commedia dell’arte of 16th-century Italy, where the Harlequin became a symbol of transformation - the fool, the trickster, the dreamer, embodying both humour and melancholy. In the 19th century, the motif found new life in pantomime and circus costume, often adorned with celestial imagery - stars, moons and night skies, as symbols of theatre’s connection to dreams and imagination.
In many ways, she carries the same spirit as the Fool, that first bright step into the unknown, where courage is born from curiosity. Like the old Harlequin, she moves between laughter and longing, learning as she goes. The tiny stars and crescent moon on her costume soften those Victorian theatrical symbols into something more intimate and bohemian, while her starfish companions continue the theme - a living constellation, awkward and endearing, sharing in her courage to begin and to keep trying.”
